Hyperthyroidism ( caused by an over-active thyroid gland) is a very common disease  of older cats in the USA, Australia and Europe. The incidence in Hong Kong is comparatively lower. In 2009 Dr. Corla conducted  a study to provide evidence that there were more cases in Hong Kong than previously thought. Corla was awarded an MSc for this work.Vets in Hong Kong are now aware of the local incidence and vigilant for the early signs. You will find that we often recommend testing your older cats thyroid levels if he or she is experiencing weight loss, gastrointestinal upset , behaviour changes or recent heart disease.
