Wellness checks
Wellness checks are our way of encouraging you as an owner to look at preventative medicine in a new way and not just rely on vaccination. Cats are notorious for masking their illnesses. It is important to recognize changes in your cat’s everyday routine, as they may be significant.
The top ten subtle signs of illness and potential reason for a wellness check are:
- Changes in level of interaction
- Changes in sleeping habits
- Weight gain or loss
- Changes in vocalization
- Changes in grooming habits
- Altered food or water consumption
- Inappropriate elimination behaviour
- Changes in activity
- Bad breath
- Signs of stress
In the Ninelives clinic your cats wellness check begins with a detailed talk to the vet. We will then conduct a full physical examination. This includes use of the otoscope, stethoscope and indirect ophthalmoscope. In older cats the nurses will measure their blood pressure. We will then discuss what additional tests are necessary and may involve the collection of blood, urine and/or faeces.
